The Mid-Life Players is casting our next production: Schoolhouse Rock Live! In Concert
Auditions - 2-5 p.m. Saturday Aug. 15 and 2-5 p.m. Sunday Aug. 16, for Mid-Life Players' production of “Schoolhouse Rock Live” in concert.
Location - One Spirit United Methodist Church, 7900 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO 64138
Directed by Tisha Swart-Entwistle with Musical Direction by Becky Clark.
Open to all 30 and older at the time of the first performance.
Prepare 32 measures of a selection in the style of the show. Bring sheet music in your key, accompanist will be provided. No a’cappella or singing with CDs. Bring a Resume and Headshot if you have them. You may be asked to sight-read music or cold-read from the show, for we will not have callbacks. Plan to remain at open auditions for an hour or so after your solo. If you are unable to attend either audition, please submit a video audition to tishaphotog@gmail.com by Sunday, Aug. 16.
Rehearsals will be twice a week, 2-5 p.m. on Sundays and 6:30 to 9:30 on Wednesdays at One Spirit United Methodist Church, 7900 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO 64138. The first rehearsal is on Aug. 19.

Synopsis
Schoolhouse Rock Live! follows Tom, a nerve-wracked school teacher who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music, through such songs as "Just a Bill," "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly" and "Conjunction Junction."
Characters
Tom - A teacher who has just received his degree. He has a good heart and is excited about the future, but still unsure and nervous. Vocal range top: A4, Vocal range bottom: F2
Ensemble - The rest of the cast will be ensemble. All vocal ranges needed. There will be many opportunities for ensemble solo parts.
Suppressed Desires - Our annual cabaret
In the flavor of “Broadway Backwards” or “Miscast,” Mid-Life Players gives you the opportunity to sing the songs normally sung by someone of another description in our annual cabaret, Suppressed Desires, on Friday September 18th, 2026! The wrong gender, the wrong age, the wrong ethnicity - Well, not anymore! OR, how about something you have ALWAYS wanted to sing on stage and never had the chance - we got you!!
Participants will sing one or two prepared pieces in solo, duet, trio, small group, as well as a fun company number for the show’s finale.

How to get in on the show:
Submit 1-2 pieces you would like to perform (ballad, up tempo, etc.), ready for performance to Keith Langabee at langabeekm@gmail.com, by Sunday, August 2nd. Keith will put the show together from the submissions (up to 30 performances max; if we get a lot of submissions, we may limit people to one performance to allow maximum participation) and pick a group number for everyone to rehearse as the finale. Upon selection, each performer must submit a copy of their entire piece in the correct key for the accompanist, and schedule at least one rehearsal with the accompanist, prior to the group rehearsal on September 17th.
