The wrong gender, the wrong age, the wrong ethnicity - Well, not anymore! In the flavor of "Broadway Backwards" or "Miscast," Mid-Life Players gives you the opportunity to sing the songs normally sung by someone of another description in our annual cabaret, Suppressed Desires, on Friday August 15, 2025.
Participants will have the opportunity to sing one or two prepared pieces in solo, duet, trio, small group, as well as a fun company number for the show.
Directed by Becky Clark and Natasha Gibbons, accompanied by Debbie Goddard, and Emceed by Tisha Swart-Entwistles.
How to get in on the show:
Submit 2 contrasting pieces (one ballad, one up tempo) ready for performance to Becky Clark and Natasha Gibbons at blclark11@gmail.com by Monday, July 7th. We only have ONE group rehearsal, so your song needs to be ready to go.
Our directors, Becky and Natasha will put the show together from the submissions and pick the group number.
Upon selection, each performer must submit a copy of their entire piece in the correct key for the accompanist.
Grease
Performances: October 24-26 - Just Off Broadway Theatre, Kansas City, MO
Rehearsals: Will start on Aug. 17 and run until performances on Sundays from 2 to 5 pm and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 9 pm at One Spirit United Methodist, Raytown, MO.
Tech Rehearsals: Will be Monday to Thursday (October 20 - 23) at 3051 Central St / Kansas City, MO (Just Off Broadway Theatre)
Grease Character Descriptors
DANNY ZUKO - The leader of the Burger Palace Boys; good-looking, strong and confident, with an air of easy-going charm. Vocal range: Tenor.
SANDY DUMBROWSKI - New girl in town; sweet, wholesome, naive, cute, and innocent. Vocal range: Soprano.
BETTY RIZZO - Leader of the Pink Ladies; tough, sarcastic and outspoken, but vulnerable. Vocal range: Alto.
FRENCHY - A dreamer; good-natured but not too smart, she is heavily made up, fussy about her appearance, particularly her hair. Vocal range: Mezzo Soprano.
MARTY - The 'beauty' of the Pink Ladies; pretty and looks older than the other girls, but betrays her real age when she opens her mouth. She tries to act sophisticated. Vocal range: Alto.
JAN - Funny, loud, compulsive eater and awkward member of the Pink Ladies. Loud and pushy with the girls, but shy with boys. Vocal range: Alto.
KENICKIE - The second in command of the Burger Palace Boys; tough-looking, surly, and avoids any show of softness. He has an offbeat sense of humour. Vocal Range: Tenor.
SONNY LaTIERRI - A member of the Burger Palace Boys; funny Italian-American, he is a braggart and wheeler-dealer who thinks he's a real lady-killer. Vocal Range: Baritone.
ROGER - The anything-for-a-laugh stocky type of boy; a clown who enjoys winding people up, he is full of mischief and is always dreaming up half-baked schemes and ideas. Vocal Range: Tenor.
DOODY - The youngest of the guys; small, boyish and open, with a disarming smile and hero-worshipping attitude towards the other guys. He also plays the guitar. Vocal Range: Tenor.
PATTY SIMCOX - A typical cheerleader; attractive, athletic, sure-of-herself, but can be given to bursts of disconcerting enthusiasm. She's a bit of a pain and unpopular with the Pink Ladies, and can twirl a baton. Vocal Range: Mezzo Soprano/Alto.
EUGENE FLORCZYK - The class valedictorian; physically awkward, with weak eyes and a high-pitched voice. He's a typical 'apple-polisher' - both smug and pompous, but gullible. Vocal Range: Baritone.
VINCE FONTAINE - A typical 'teen audience' disc jockey; slick, egotistical, and fast-talking. He is also a veteran "Greaser." Non-singing role.
CHA CHA, a.k.a. Charlene DiGregorio - The best dancer at St. Bernadette's; a loudmouth, she wins the dancing competition with Danny. Non-singing role.
JOHNNY CASINO - All-American, rock-star "greaser" student at Rydell High, whose real name is Clarence. Vocal Range: Tenor
MISS LYNCH - A no-nonsense, serious, loud English teacher. Vocal Range: Mezzo Soprano
RADIO VOICE: Vocal Range: Mezzo Soprano.
TEEN ANGEL – Vocal Range: Tenor.
